Giclée is pronounced zhee-klay. The French word “giclée” is a feminine noun that means a spray or a spurt of liquid.  The word may have been derived from the French verb “gicler” meaning “to squirt”.

The “squirt” refers to the ink-jet process which is a gigantic elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans. Once the original art is digitally archived prints can be produced one at a time as needed. Giclée prints are sometimes referred to as Iris prints, which are 4-Color ink-jet prints from a printer pioneered in the late 1970s by Iris Graphics.

The giclée printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction which is really important to painters. Digital images can also be reproduced to almost any size, giving you the option of choosing.

Leslie Lee’s print editions include all the sizes printed. If an edition is 250 the publisher keeps track of all the prints made and deletes the digital file when the edition hits 250. Each print is signed and numbered and sent with a Certificate of Authenticity.
