The title gives a clue as to my intention with this image of a woman cutting off her very long, heavy hair, freeing herself from that which is no longer serving her and dancing for joy. As this painting progressed I realized that I was addressing not only a personal issue but a global one. Her hair becomes an oil spill, possibly on fire and miring a bird in its tarry gunk. By cutting off that oil dependency and harvesting the sun via the solar panel behind the figure, there is another reason to jump for joyous freedom.
