This was the last of four paintings of a woman sitting in a chair reading that I did in a 5 day painting intensive under the guidance of Jef Gunn.  He encouraged me to paint the subject upside down to better study the relationships of shapes and colors and not be distracted by the subject per se.  This may have been the beginning of the major shift in my work starting in 2014.
