Finding the woman in Japanese garb and the cranes in flight in the beginning “smoosh” (first detail) of this painting probably had to do with reading a novel set in Japan. The addition of the gold leaf, origami instructions for folding a Peace Crane and the collage of flowers drawn on deli paper came as a result of a wax and oil painting workshop with Ruth Armitage.
